Introducing the GNFAC’s New Website!

New look. New feel.

Greetings from the GNFAC.

We just launched our new website today and hope you find it easier to navigate and use. There are two major changes:

1. The site is mobile friendly.

At the end of last season 60% people viewed the website on a mobile device (53% smartphone, 7% tablet). Our old site did not accommodate the different sized devices very well, so we upgraded. This site uses Drupal 8 which has a responsive web design making it an effective mobile platform for all devices.

2. We added Regional Conditions pages to the avalanche advisory.

Our advisory format remains the same but attached to it are links to every region in our area (Bridgers, N-Madison, Cooke, etc.) that will provide a “one-stop” shop of relevant information to a specific region. Current snowfall, wind and temperature are displayed along with the avalanche danger. Photos, videos, and snowpits that are relevant to a specific region are displayed. All weather links and webcams are in one spot. And NEW this season is a Bottom Line of avalanche conditions, a primary avalanche problem, a 5-day avalanche danger trend, and a NWS spot weather forecast.

We created these regional pages in order to streamline the information on our website. As forecasters we were finding a lot of the information on our site was cumbersome to find and potentially hidden from a new user. No more.

We hope you enjoy the site and find it friendly to use. If you find any issues, please drop us a line at mtavalanche@gmail.com. Running the avalanche center is a team effort and our biggest partner is the Friends of the Avalanche Center who host the site.

Be safe, have fun and get ready for a deep La Nina winter!
